Sodium Thiosulfate Used in Water Treatment

Fixing image also involves sodium thiosulfate. The remaining inactive particles need to be rinsed off by soaking the picture in a solution containing sodium thiosulfate. This process also stops image development and prevents further exposure to light.

Gold Mining

Sodium thiosulfate in gold mining involves a process called gold cyanidation. The process involves extracting gold from ore using cyanide solutions.

Collecting Gold. The thiosulfate complex is then treated to separate the gold from the solution. This involves adding chemicals or adjusting the pH of the solution to make the gold turn into solid.


Getting Pure Gold. The solid gold particles are then collected and further processed to obtain pure gold. The entire process helps miners get gold safely without using harmful chemicals.
